"Worth 6 stars and the long wait to get there! After three previous failed attempts over the last twenty years, we have now managed to get to Aride: this was our main reason for going to the Seychelles…..The whole experience was wonderful…..The island is pristine and undoubtedly worth the effort and expense to get there if you have the opportunity to do so.”

Aride Island is open to foreign and local visitors normally Mondays to Fridays. Visits on Saturdays and Sundays are possible by prior arrangement with the Island Manager (call +2482719778 or +2482547722). Please note that Aride often closes to all visitors during the Southeast Trade winds (mainly from May to September) and may close at short notice due to strong surf making it difficult to land by boat. To avoid disappointment, try to arrange a visit early leaving an alternative date to fall back on should the island have to close. If not travelling with an organised group please check if the island is open with the Island Manager prior to departure to avoid disappointment.

Entrance fees to the island are set at Seychelles Rupee 650 per adult and Seychelles Rupee 300 per child (4-13 years of age) or its equivalent in other currencies. Children under the age of 4 will enter for free. Preferential rates will be given to all residents on presentation of an ID card or resident permit. All residents should contact the ICS Head Office on telephone number 4375354 for more details. Group visits may also be arranged for which a special group charge can be organised. Visits can be arranged by private yachts, private boat operators self-sail boat charter or with Seal Superyachts Seychelles and Silhouette Cruises. Click here to download the list of private boat operators. If coming by self-sail, please read our yacht protocol.

We request boat operators and clients to call at least a day before the date of visit to confirm arrangements; you can contact the Island Manager on: +248 2719778 or +248 2547722.

A visit to Aride is the best opportunity to see Seychelles as it was before the discovery of the islands by the outside world. Aride has more species of breeding seabird and greater numbers than the other 40 granitic islands combined. It is the only natural home of the fragrant Wright's Gardenia. It is one of the finest nature reserves in the Indian Ocean. The view from the summit of the nature trail is one of the most spectacular in Seychelles, with thousands of frigatebirds soaring above the last granite cliffs before India.

Explore Volunteering...

Are you looking for a volunteering experience that is worthwhile, enjoyable and different? Then consider Aride Island, one of the most pristine tropical nature reserves in the world. We are seeking volunteers for 3- to 6-month positions at Aride Island Special Reserve.

Volunteers play an important role in assisting the operations and conservation team with day-to-day duties, particularly launching and beaching the boats, helping with visitors and assisting with the scientific surveys and monitoring programmes. In addition, they provide a valuable social and skills base which may otherwise be absent from the island.

If you are a young graduate starting out on a career or are simply looking to undertake a scientific research or work placement as a requirement of the university course or an experienced professional interested to volunteer on Aride, feel free to apply.

Volunteering Requirements
Volunteers should ideally possess:

1. A degree in natural sciences or other relevant fields and/or useful practical skills such as in electrics, engine maintenance and carpentry.
2. A desirable level of computer skills including Office suite and database management.
3. A good level of fitness and the ability to swim.
4. Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills – an advantage
5. A desirable experience in biodiversity conservation or participation in environmental programmes.
6. Any other relevant knowledge and experience.
This is a unique opportunity for adventurous, conservation-minded and hands-on individuals to experience life on an exceptional tropical nature reserve. Please note volunteers are expected to help with all daily duties required for the running of the island, including notably the launching of boats, when all hands are required.
How To Apply
If you are interested in volunteering on Aride, please click here to complete the application form online. Please also send a copy of your CV when applying.
