Australian High Commission to fund renewable energy project on Aride

Aride Island Conservation Centre
At a reception to mark Australia National Day held on 30th January 2012, Australian High Commissioner Sandra Vegting announced that an Island Conservation Society application to fund the installation of a renewable energy hybrid system on Aride has been successful. Under the High Commission's Direct Aid Program, AUD31,614 will be contributed to the project which aims to upgrade Aride's energy facilities. The project wil be co-funded WHL Energy Ltd, represented at the event by Managing Director Steve Noske and Exploration Manager Matt Fittall. This is one of the largest aid projects that has ever been funded on Aride. It is anticipated it will make a big difference to the quality of life of the conservation staff resident on the island, improve facilities for monitoring and research and it will greatly reduce reliance on diesel generated electricity. More news will be announced in due course as the project progresses.
